The House of the Foreign
Writers and Translators of Saint Nazaire (Maison des
Écrivains Étrangers et des Traducteurs de Saint-Nazaire
: M.E.E.T) welcomes in France writers and translators from
all over the world.
The M.E.E.T invites one writer or translator at a time. It
allocates him/her a grant and offers him/her a big apartment,
on the tenth floor of the Building, a block of flats located
above the docks of Saint Nazaire’s port and the shipbuildings
workshops of the « Chantiers de l’Atlantique »
on the Loire’s estuary.
The M.E.E.T regularly organizes conferences, public readings
and meetings with writers.
It also organizes and awards two literary prizes every year:
- the Laure Bataillon Prize of the best fiction work published
in its French translation in the year
- the Prize of the Young Latin-American Literature, a discovery
prize set up in Latin America.
M.E.E.T is also a publisher: every year it brings out several
bilingual books and the literary review meet.
